Alphonse de Lamartine- a French writer and poet, and one of the main figures of French Romanticism, once said: “We don’t have two hearts, one for animals and one for humans: we have one heart, or we don’t have any.”
In this classic animal wallpaper design, there is a human shape turning his back to us, as if he were viewing the design he is existing in, while interacting with the creatures he is observing. One of them is looking back at us, allowing us to reconsider our place amongst all sentient beings. We may imagine the human being in identity with that animal, with a human heart- transformed by his oneness with the creature.
